Shorts and Tights Are My Guilty Pleasure

You heard me.

I have heard a lot of people bash on the shorts and tights combo.  Heck, even one of my sisters doesn't like it!  I, however, can't get enough of the combination.  And for the people reading this that can't get enough of it either, I'm here to tell you the perfect things to wear shorts and tights with.

1) A chunky sweater.

Don't judge me, this photo was taken during my freshman year of college.

Then again, I thoroughly enjoy how this photo showcases my choice of cutoffs and traditional tights with my mom's old sweater that she had given me that winter break.  Oh, and cool shoes are a must with this type of outfit.  Feel free to make a statement with rolled up socks as well.

2) Sweater over a button-down.  

Once again, this picture was taken during my freshman year.

For this photo, I had chosen cutoffs and traditional tights to go with an old hand-me-down sweater from the Gap and a button-down.  The magical touch, however?  The button-down that I had paired with this outfit was a red, white, and blue striped vintage button-down from the sixties.  If you can play with colors and patterns, then definitely take advantage of that, even if you have to add plain black flats with your outfit because your other shoes had gotten wet doing the Harlem Shake in the snow (grrrr).  

3) Wear brightly colored shorts.

(no, this is not me, this is a different blogger)

Wearing something other than denim shorts with tights shows creativity and spunkiness.  My own take on the shorts would be something like this:

As seen above, something bright and noticeable would do the trick nicely.  Pair with neutral colored shoes so that you don't take away from the effect of the shorts.

4) Try suspender tights.

Do I even need a picture to show how awesome this would look?  And if you don't think suspender tights are cool, you can crawl back into the shadows where you belong.

5) Pair the combo with an unexpected item.

Just chilling with Jeannie from the Ellen show, no big deal.

Anyway, this sweater is a unique sweater from Italy that my sister gave me.  I decided that the only acceptable way to wear it would be with traditional cutoffs and tights; no one would expect it and the silhouette would look awesome.

And finally...

WILDCARD PAIRING: Overalls with tights.

Overalls are just one of the fashion staples that can go with just about anything.  And if you're like me, and you want to wear your short overalls in the winter, then pair it with tights, a sweater, and maybe even a scarf!  The look would just be too cool to handle.

I certainly hoped that I helped you come up with cool and awesome ways to pull of shorts and tights!  It's just one of those combos that would look great with the right sense of creativity.  Over and out.
